Senior Project Manager (Architecture or Building Services)

Kingston University is a leading London University with 20,000 students and 2,000 staff based across five teaching campuses in and around Kingston upon Thames. With five successful faculties across a broad range of subjects and annual income over £200m the University is continually developing and improving its estate.

Estates lead the University's Vision Implementation Plan (VIP), a multi-million pound investment including new buildings that will transform our campuses, in addition to significant refurbishment projects. You will work as part of the Estates professional team which provides strategic advice, design and project management, energy management, biodiversity and other expert advice.

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Estates, the Senior Project Manager (Architecture or Building Services) will provide in-house architectural design services on smaller scale projects and will lead briefing and design advice on larger scale projects across the University. This is a unique and exciting client side architecture and project management role. It will give the University the in-house capability to deliver best value for money and design quality, ranging from minor projects at circa £100K to major capital schemes in excess of £10m. As well as undertaking the design related aspects of Estates projects the Senior Project Manager (Architecture or Building Services) will lead and project manage from the client side on the larger scale schemes, managing framework consultant teams, project managers and contractors.

Projects emanate from the University’s Estate Development Vision and also from Faculties and Directorates. The Senior Project Manager (Architecture or Building Services) role will be to develop initial requirements to the point where the design concepts and business cases can be evaluated for practical and financial purposes and then implemented. You must be committed to providing the highest level of project management, design advice and customer service.

You will possess significant experience in a project management role with responsibility for leading the design and project management of projects from small scale projects to larger capital schemes, on building types with comparable characteristics to those found in the higher education sector.  You will either be an ARB qualified architect or experienced architectural technologist, a qualified building services designer or an APM or RICS accredited project manager with relevant experience. You will have strong strategic planning and project management skills with experience of business reporting to senior level stakeholders.  Prospective candidates will be technically competent and familiar with construction contract administration. You will be able to demonstrate good experience of managing construction projects safely and within agreed parameters of time, cost and quality.

Excellent interpersonal, communication and analytical skills together with the capability to work in a cross-functional way are required in this role.

The University offers an attractive benefits package which includes a career average pension scheme and 35 days annual leave per year, excluding public holidays. We welcome applications from returners to work and are willing to consider requests for flexible working.
