Capital Projects Team Leader

Kingston University is a leading London University with over 16,000 students and 2,000 staff based across 5 teaching campuses in and around Kingston upon Thames.  With 5 successful faculties across a broad range of subjects and an annual income of over £200m the University is continually developing and improving its Estate. This is a leadership role in the Estates professional team – a team which provides strategic planning, design and project management, space and property management, energy management, biodiversity management and other expert advice to the University.

Estates leads the University's Vision Implementation Plan (VIP) which includes new buildings that will transform the learning and teaching experience at the University’s campuses as well as innovative refurbishments and energy management projects. We are currently working on significant projects with architectural practices with worldwide reputations, including Grafton Architects and Haworth Tompkins.  We lead a planned investment of more than £260m over 10 years.

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Estates, the Capital Projects Team Leader will lead the delivery of Estates projects, emphasising design quality and value for money on contracts, ranging from circa £400k up to circa £40m. The post holder must be committed to providing the highest level of project management, financial management and customer service.

The successful candidate will have significant experience in leading the delivery of multiple projects including new build and refurbishment projects in a comparable context.  Commercially aware and a qualified design-aware construction professional, you will have strong strategic planning and project management skills, with experience of project reporting to senior level stakeholders.  Prospective candidates will be strong technically, very familiar with construction contract administration and proficient in proactively managing commercial and contractual negotiations with contractors. You will be able to demonstrate significant experience of coordinating multiple projects within agreed parameters of time, cost and quality.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership and analytical skills are essential abilities to succeed in this stimulating and interesting role.
