Pocket Living (, a design led and ethical developer, is looking for a new Head of Design. The company has received considerable investment and is in a strong cash position which they intend to use for expansion. This makes for a very exciting time in the company's evolution.

All developments are in London and are either pure housing or residential led mixed use projects. The scale varies from 30 units up to 200 units so there is a wide variety of scales and sites. Projects will be a mixture of new build and building conversion - there are typically 10-15 projects underway at any one time.

The role would see you appointing and managing some of the industry's best architectural practices, including smaller practices that have a strong local agenda.

The position will be responsible for spotting and influencing key design trends as well as presenting to and representing the developer with local authorities, joint venture partners and other stakeholders. The role will also manage the design development process and seek to find the optimum balance between design and factors such as cost, 'buildability', programme and functionality

Additional responsibilities will include staying up to date with lifestyle trends, new methods of construction, alternative materials, sustainability and the company's social responsibility. All projects should have a positive impact to residents and the local community.

The position will report to the Senior Operations Director and will work closely with a wide range of teams internally

Candidates will likely be RIBA qualified and working either within architectural practice or a residential developer. The will be operating at Associate level or above and already be in a position that requires them to think strategically. All applicants must have considerable UK residential project experience.

Proven design flair and a strong track record within practice is just as important as candidates' understanding of programme and construction. It's important that the Design Director is able to hold credibility with the external consultant teams.

Good communication and presentation skills required along with a willingness to speak at public events.

A desire to work for a quality developer and a passion for outstanding design solutions is essential.
