The Role

Do you have a degree in architectural or interior design, significant experience of working on workplace projects and a real desire to take on a range of challenges in a unique and historic environment? Then make the move to the House of Commons Strategic Estates Property, Planning & Design team.

Our Strategic Estates department manages property and engineering infrastructures across the Parliamentary Estate, which consists of buildings that range from the historic Palace of Westminster to the modern Portcullis House. The Estate is also located within a UNESCO World Heritage site and spans four conservation areas.

The Property, Planning & Design team provides workspace related design and support services to the House of Commons and the House of Lords to ensure the Estate is a welcoming and accessible working environment for all and maintained to House wide standards.

Join us as a Workspace Designer and you could soon be helping our team leads develop and provide workspace solutions to meet the varied requirements of the House of Commons and the House of Lords  Day-to-day, your work will include space planning and the development of small design schemes and design briefs for delivery by Parliament’s delivery teams. You’ll also have the opportunity to get involved in Strategic work that includes brief definition and preparation through to concept design (RIBA 2013 Work Stages 0 to 2).  You will be producing drawings, presentation materials and proposing interior design solutions. You will be ensuring schemes are built to agreed standards, helping develop business cases and more in this interesting and varied role.

Relevant experience is essential. We’ll be looking for examples of relevant completed workplace projects and descriptions of your specific contribution to those projects.. You will be able to confidently specify contract grade finishes and furniture and use design software like AutoCAD, Revit, Sketch-up, InDesign and Photoshop. Well-organised, with great prioritising skills, you pride yourself on your flair for liaising effectively with a variety of stakeholders and planning and delivering workplace design projects to target and budget.
