Ref: 514

The Role

You will lead the Department of Architecture & Landscape and be responsible for the development of the teaching, learning and research culture of the department. You will contribute to strategic leadership and development through your experience of academic leadership roles, understanding of the wider HE sector, and in enabling a practitioner-oriented and collegiate culture of research and teaching. You will work with the Head of School of Art & Architecture to manage departmental staffing and budgets. Working and developing from the existing ethos of the department, and bringing your own perspectives, you will work closely with the Professor of Architecture, Associate Professors and Course Leaders across UG and PG in ensuring the Department reaches the highest levels in teaching, learning, research, enterprise and outreach.

The Department of Architecture & Landscape has established an intellectual, social and cultural position within the UK and Europe.  Building on the reflexive idea of ‘thinking through making’ as well as making through intelligent and creative thoughts and the implications of these for the contemporary production of architecture, we are invested in a culture of practitioner engagement, and in enabling our students within this context.  Our inclusion in the Domus top 50 of European Schools of Architecture is testament to the strength of the school. Our ambitions are to further increase our attractiveness as a place to learn and research architecture and to enhance our visibility nationally and internationally.

You will work with other department heads to build on the inter-disciplinary potentials of our wider School of Art & Architecture, our international reach, and play a key role in maintaining the cultural and professional agility of the department in a challenging higher education context.

Applicants will be required to demonstrate that they meet the Kingston University standards in learning and teaching, and research.  By the end of the probation period, you must have achieved the relevant level of UKPSF recognition (if this has not already been obtained) through our Kingston Academic Practice Standards Framework.
