A prestigious central government institution are looking to appoint a Design Manager to join their team. This team has been established to manage the refurbishment of a number of significant buildings, including Grade i, ii and iii and modern facilities. Accordingly, the programme promises to have a very high public profile due to the nature of the institution, staff and its operations, along with being fast-moving and complex. It will also have significant complex inter-dependencies across the whole estate.
Your new role
The core focus of the Design Manager is to proactively manage the projects; assisting on pre-construction activities and tender opportunities; and crucially to control, coordinate and integrate the activities of the external design consultants working on this major programme of works. You will drive innovative, safe and cost effective solutions through value management activities at each stage. Under pressurised and strict timescales, you will progress design issues, ensuring the design consultants meet information delivery dates. You will be ensuring, verifying and taking control of the status of consultants and subcontractors drawings and specifications and registers.
What you'll need to succeed
You will be a Qualified Architect, with a skill set which includes working on complex construction projects, and demonstrable knowledge and experience in managing a design process via external consultants. You will be an effective team member where communication skills are crucial, enabling the development of trust from internal stakeholders, conveying with assurance that their requirements are being met. Good presentation skills are required both within the organisation and to external stakeholders such as Planning Authorities and Statutory Bodies. You will be expected to work with other Design Managers and the wider team, in formulating best practice in design management techniques and their reviews.
You will have a proven track record in delivering high quality outputs on extremely tight deadlines in a challenging, fast-paced and complex environment.
