We are currently seeking expressions of interest from experienced and talented Urban Designers at intermediate and senior levels of their careers to join our teams based in Auckland, Wellington and Queenstown. We are looking for people that can work across the scale, from city or regional spatial plans to site design, on a range of exciting projects.

We are seeking candidates who have:

  • At least five years’ (intermediate roles) or at least ten years’ (senior roles) professional experience in urban design and related fields, preferably in a consultancy environment with a mix of NZ and International experience.
  • A Masters’ degree in Urban Design and an undergraduate qualification and background in architecture, landscape architecture or planning.
  • A portfolio of project experience that demonstrates creativity, a critical eye and the ability to problem solve and actively contribute ideas within a collaborative team.
  • A genuine interest and capability to work with a wide range of communities and their stakeholders. An understanding of government influences at all levels would also be beneficial.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including being an effective and confident communicator to a broad audience and in a range of settings.
  • Skilled graphic and written capability, ability to use a broad range of digital tools and techniques – AutoCAD, Sketchup, Adobe Creative Suite, GIS
  • Proven that they are highly motivated to develop and maintain enduring client relationships, and can demonstrate that they have an understanding of the role of both the public and private sectors in contributing to good urban design outcomes.
  • Professional registration within one or more core urban design disciplines.

We recognise that urban design is a broad field. Whilst we are looking for people that can take an integrated and holistic view of urban design, candidates are likely to have specialist expertise in one or more of the following area/s:

  • Residential masterplanning for greenfield and/or brownfield areas
  • Integrated transport / land use-planning
  • Urban design integration of transport infrastructure and business case development
  • Planning and design for walking and cycling
  • Streetscape / public realm design
  • Strategic studies such as urban design frameworks, precinct plans and design guidelines
  • Design-led engagement and facilitation
  • Urban design assessment, expert evidence and design review

When applying for this role, we encourage candidates to outline any relevance experience in these areas, and to highlight the areas of urban design practice they are most passionate about, and wish to focus on in future. (Note, there is not an expectation that candidates will have practiced in all of the areas above).

We offer a supportive, collaborative and respectful working environment, and value having an inclusive and diverse workplace. We offer ongoing opportunities for professional and personal development to ensure that our people can become the very best version of themselves. The broad range and scale of project work we do allows our team the possibility to work closely with landscape architects, ecologists, biosecurity specialists, cultural advisors, landscape planners and planners. Regardless of discipline, we are all passionate people who excel at what we do.
