Senior Manager, Masterplanning & Space Management
The University of Sussex is seeking to appoint to the post of Senior Manager, Masterplanning & Space Management to play an influential role in the planning and realisation of the long-term strategic vision for the University’s campus and estate portfolio.
The University of Sussex is a leading higher education and research institution. The first of the new wave of UK universities founded in the 1960s, receiving its Royal Charter in 1961, Sussex is a successful, growing University with a top-20 place in the major UK higher education league tables. The University has a beautiful and diverse estate located in Falmer, to the east of Brighton and Hove. It is situated in the South Downs National Park and has amongst its buildings a core heritage estate designed by Sir Basil Spence.
Over the past two decades, Sussex has doubled in size in terms of activity, with the University trying to accommodate this growth within its existing constrained campus. The overall masterplan to the estate is expected to provide a strategy for improvements in terms of both quality and quantity. In 2019, the University approved its Estates and IT strategies. At the opening of 2020 this strategy is being developed into a roadmap of projects to deliver the physical manifestation of the strategy. Although the building blocks of this roadmap are defined, the detail of the delivery is yet to be established, and the Senior Manager, Masterplanning & Space Management will have a pivotal role in defining these projects.
Reporting to the Deputy Director of Estates (Capital & Development) and as the lead for the Masterplanning & Space Management team, the role offers the opportunity to take on a diverse portfolio of responsibility including masterplanning, capital projects brief development, space planning and moves/decant management, leadership of change and transformation projects and have significant strategic input into the development and delivery of the Estate Strategy.
We are seeking an individual that has demonstrable experience of estate masterplanning and space planning across large-scale and complex estate and space portfolios. The role will suit an individual with excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills, and who will relish the opportunity to play a leading role in the development of an inspiring and diverse campus and estate environment to support the growth ambitious of the University.
The University offers a compelling employer proposition including a positive approach to flexible working, significant investment in staff wellbeing and development, a very generous pension scheme and annual leave allowance, and access to campus facilities. There is also relocation support available for individuals seeking to relocate to the region to take up the position.
