Head of Strategic Space Planning

The University of Chester is a thriving institution, which, over the past two decades, has seen one of the most prolific and progressive periods in its 180-year history, in terms of its popularity, curriculum development, flourishing national and international academic reputation, facilities and public profile. Rooted in the community, the University has a proud history of preparing students for careers of service and continues to train a significant proportion of the region’s doctors, nurses, midwives, social workers, teachers and police officers. Equally, it successfully promotes courses for those seeking employment in business, industry and the sciences, while also meeting the needs of creative students with arts and humanities disciplines.

Since gaining University status in 2005, the institution has seen significant investment and expansion, with provision of a more diverse and innovative curriculum (the variety and nature of courses ranging from Animation to Zoo Management) to more than 15,000 students, across nine distinctive main sites.

Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor and supporting the Executive Director of Estates Strategy, the post holder will be responsible for leading, developing and managing the University’s approach to space planning, utilisation and allocation proposals and proactive strategic and operational space management service aligned with medium term (five-year planning horizon) strategic direction that the post holder has informed.

As a key member of the Estates and Facilities Leadership Team, the Head of Strategic Space Management will take the lead role in ensuring that the University optimises the utilisation of its 220,000 m2 estate portfolio. The Head of Strategic Space Management will also have line management responsibility for the Head of Space and Statistical Returns.

The ideal candidate will possess proven experience and a track record of successfully leading the development and implementation of space and workplace strategies at a senior and influential level.

To be a success in the role you will need to be highly motivated and results-focused with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  The role calls for an individual who is able to gain the confidence of and successfully influence a diverse range of stakeholders.
