Job Details

We are very pleased to be hiring for Pocket Living again. This is a new role for the company working alongside the Product Design Manager as a Client Monitor and Architectural Technician.  The remit will include overseeing several Pocket residential new build schemes in construction at any one time. The role will focus on carrying out the CMT function, overseeing architectural design management matters from build contract signing through to practical completion. The purpose is to protect the interests of Pocket Living, ensuring compliance with building regulations, emerging policy and build contract conditions. Under the design and build contract, the contractor can sometimes stray from the original design. The Architectural Technician will be the key figure in ensuring what is built, is as per the original design and the employer requirements unless agreed otherwise.

The key responsibilities of the role are as follows:

  • Proactively review and status construction drawings and technical submittals against the building contract to the agreed protocols.
  • Raise any non-compliance or deviations proactively against the Employer’s Requirements (ER’s) to the relevant Project Manager and Employer’s Agent in a streamlined way.
  • To review and status contractor design proposals to ensure alignment with Pocket’s design guides and any regulatory and legislative requirements, whilst ensuring quality and compliance.
  • Audit schemes as and when the Pocket briefing documents are updated to emerging policy requirements.
  • Assist the Project Managers in respect of design programme and any key matters impacting delivery.
  • Input on sub-contractor’s design, including fabrication, manufacture and specialist drawing packages where required.
  • Strategic coordination of other external CMT functions working client side which typically includes structures, M&E, lifts and façade to ensure coordinated design reviews.
  • Attend key design workshops to resolve any design related issues on site.
  • Attend monthly progress and design team meetings.
  • Raise any contractor’s proposals relating to the apartment design and specification to the Product and Design Manager.
  • To attend regular site inspections to ensure quality, compliance and alignment to ER’s.
  • Monitor design progress against key programme milestones.
  • Sample panel/benchmark snagging for items outside of the apartments.
  • Visits to project specific factories or suppliers as required to protect the ER’s
  • In times of reduced CMT workload, other design orientated tasks will be set. Examples include exploring new products and enhancements to the Pocket specification, updating internal design documents and briefs, collating data and developing presentations, proposing new innovations and developing drawings of new apartment types.
  • Complete any other tasks reasonably requested of you.
Core Competencies:

  • Degree educated either a professionally newly qualified Architect (RIBA) or chartered architectural technologist (MCIAT).
  • Proven technical design experience in practice working client side or in architectural practice on residential design and build schemes of value £5-30m.
  • Ability to oversee, understand and manage the CMT function of several large schemes simultaneously.
  • Solid technical and construction design knowledge.
  • Extensive understanding of building regulations, codes, and construction legislations.
  • Good knowledge of London Plan, LHDG and influences of planning policy.
  • Ability to use design and construction management software such as Procore and For Projects.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD drawing software and Adobe InDesign.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Proactive, collaborative and structured
