The Royal Parks is the charity responsible for over 5,000 acres of diverse parkland landscapes, gardens, woodlands, rare habitats and historic buildings and monuments in eight Royal Parks across London. These are: Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, The Green Park, St James’s Park, The Regent’s Park and Primrose Hill, Greenwich Park, Richmond Park and Bushy Park. They also manage other important public spaces including Brompton Cemetery and Victoria Tower Gardens. Their eight Royal Parks and other public spaces are among the most visited attractions in the UK with 77 million visits every year.

As part of the growing TRP Landscape Studio you will contribute to the design and management of resilient and sustainable parks for the 21st Century, contribute to their post pandemic renewal and explore their unparalleled landscape history to reveal the past. You will play a key role in the development of strategic masterplans and management plans on a wide range of projects. This will include masterplans for our water bodies - lakes, rivers, streams and wetlands, the development and implementation of tree and woodland management strategies, and management plans for gardens and landscape character areas.

You will support the development our award-winning park management plans providing technical support to park management and specialist teams. You will work closely with in house experts and specialist consultants.

You will support the delivery of a diverse range of projects across all the parks including extensive new areas of urban parkland, habitat creation from rare acid grassland to woodlands and wetlands, public spaces for events, activities, and visitor facilities, as well as significant areas of landscape restoration and renewal.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Head of Landscape to deliver a range of strategies related to water bodies, trees, woodlands and landscape
  • Deliver management plans relating to specific areas of the parks and support the delivery of the 10 year Park Management Plans
  • Contribute to the development of master planning from RIBA Stages 0 -3 from concept through to planning submission
  • Work closely with TRP specialists including Biodiversity, Arboriculture, Sustainability, and Park Management teams to ensure proposals contribute to TRP strategic objectives
  • Work closely with specialist consultants and contractors
  • Prepare drawings using AutoCAD, Adobe Suite and other software
  • Prepare illustrative material to present to senior managers and trustees, for meetings, workshops, and events
  • Engage with statutory consultees, key stakeholders, special interest groups, volunteers, and others with an interest in the proposals
  • Collect and present data, survey information and research
  • Contribute to the work of the Landscape Studio taking responsibility for technical and administrative aspects of projects alongside colleagues

Key Skills and Experience

  • Postgraduate/Masters qualification in Landscape Architecture, Landscape management or similar
  • Demonstrable experience in practice
  • Experience of producing strategic landscape management and masterplans, documents, reports, with some experience of landscape character assessment.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institute
  • Experience using AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience in RIBA Stages 0-3 on projects of a similar nature
  • Experience working in historic landscapes would be advantageous
