The Royal Parks is the charity responsible for over 5,000 acres of diverse parkland landscapes, gardens, woodlands, rare habitats and historic buildings and monuments in eight Royal Parks across London. These are: Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, The Green Park, St James’s Park, The Regent’s Park and Primrose Hill, Greenwich Park, Richmond Park and Bushy Park. They also manage other important public spaces including Brompton Cemetery and Victoria Tower Gardens. Their eight Royal Parks and other public spaces are among the most visited attractions in the UK with 77 million visits every year.

As part of the growing TRP Landscape Studio you will contribute to the design and management of resilient and sustainable parks for the 21st Century, contribute to their post pandemic renewal and explore their unparalleled landscape history to reveal the past. You will work across all the parks on a diverse range of projects from concept to delivery including the design of extensive new areas of urban parkland, habitat creation from rare acid grassland to woodlands and wetlands, public spaces for events, activities, and visitor facilities, as well as significant areas of landscape restoration and renewal.

You will contribute to strategic thinking, master planning and our innovative management plans providing technical support to park management and specialist teams. You will work closely with in house experts and specialist consultants.

You will support the Head of Landscape, contribute to strategic thinking, ensure design quality and consistency across all the parks, and provide design and technical input to projects.

**Please note this is a 2 year fixed term contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Head of Landscape in the design and delivery of landscape projects across all Royal Parks from RIBA Stages 0-6, writing briefs through concept development, planning and detailed design to delivery
  • Work closely with TRP Landscape, Ecology, Arboriculture, Sustainability, Park Management, and other specialist teams to ensure all landscape design proposals deliver strategic objectives
  • Manage and administer contracts
  • Prepare drawings using AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, NBC Chorus, Plant Finder and other software
  • Produce hand drawn sketches and/or digital visualisations to illustrate ideas and proposals
  • Ensure design quality and consistency across all the parks, updating TRP’s Landscape Design Guide and providing technical and design support to park teams and other specialists
  • Be responsible for the project management and financial management of projects

Skills and Experience

  • Postgraduate/Masters qualification in Landscape Architecture
  • Demonstrable experience in practice
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institute
  • Experience using AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience in RIBA Stages 4-6 on projects of a similar nature
  • Experience working in historic landscapes would be advantageous
